infra-sound - silent roar

Image
elephants can produce infra-sound with their trunks. these sounds can achieve the volume of the thunderclap, but are so deep that they cannot be heard by human beings. elephants receive these sounds from many kilometres away with the help of special cells in their legs and trunks. researchers have recorded these sounds with special microphones and have already identified several hundred different 'elephant words'- probably there are many more too. not only elephants, but also hippopotamuses, giraffes, and some species of whales communicate via infra-sound.

how to make a artificial earthquake at home?

you need: dominoes, a large and a small flat board, an eraser.                   Do as follows:                                         place the dominoes one above the other on the large board. position the small board in such as way that it touches the larger board. now, press the smaller board against the larger one and at the same time move it backwards. repeat the activity replacing the small board with the eraser.         Did you know that.... about 10,000 earthquakes occur every year, of which only a few cause damages? in december 2004, around 230,000 people died in a devastating tsunami? most of the tsunami do not cause any damage, as they occur in the sparsely populated pacific area? animals often behave strangely or flee before an earthquake?  they seem to sense somethin...

How do we save ourselves from earthquakes?

Image
living in an earthquake-prone zones is often unavoidable. for instance, almost entire japan lies in an earthquake-prone zone. for this reason, buildings here are primarily made "earthquake resistance" so that the loss can be minimized. buildings are built on foundations made of steel balls or from elastic materials such as bamboo. in skyscrapers, a pendulum weighing several tons is installed in the upper floors, which minimizes the vibrations that start in the upper storeys when an earthquake occurs. if an earthquake occurs, we should take refuge, at best, in the open or seek protection under a table.                                      in japan, where there are frequent earthquakes, school children practise what they should do in an earthquake. protect the head, crouch, and hide under the table.

when was money first used?

Image
money is a medium of exchange of a certain value, which one cannot consume or utilize directly. thousands of years ago people exchanged useful items with one another. later, objects used for exchange, which had a generally known value, were used as the mode of payment. when requirement of exchange increased, the first coins were made, later followed by paper money. banks took over the money business. they lent money or printed bank notes during a strong inflation.
